Growing Our Garden

Grow With Us

Join us as we continue to develop the Gardens. Capital gifts of all sizes provide for new gardens and facilities, while endowment gifts ensure that our new gardens mature and are nurtured for future generations to enjoy.

Help Us Grow

In 2003 a visionary group of plant enthusiasts were gifted 19 acres by Robert W Monk with the mission to create an engaging, beautiful, and educational garden.

Located at 1800 N. First Ave. on Wausau’s west side, on 30 acres, the Gardens have become an urban sanctuary for education, appreciation of our environment, relaxation and recreation. “What an absolutely awesome place…a magical escape into nature…” wrote one visitor.

As the only botanical gardens in Central and North Central Wisconsin, plans to continue to develop the 30 acres (see our master plan here) continues each year.

Funding Our Future

A gift to the Gardens’ Endowment ensures the upkeep, growth, and care of Monk Botanical Gardens for future generations to enjoy. Today, revenue from memberships, gifts to the annual fund, other generous donations, and grants combined with earned revenue provide for the day-to-day operations of the Gardens.

As we make plans for new gardens, future facilities, and expanding programs, the Gardens’ Endowment Fund will add an additional and permanent revenue stream to help sustain and strengthen the Gardens well into the future to ensure long-term financial health.

Currently, the Gardens’ Endowment Fund is around $260,000. In order to sustain the Gardens into the future, this fund will need to grow to at least $5 million. Gifts of all sizes truly make a difference.

Commemorative Gifts

There are many ways to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to the Monk Botanical Gardens. A commemorative gift offers a unique opportunity to honor the special people in your life. Gifts may be purchased in loving memory or in honor of a cherished friend, relative or to celebrate an anniversary, achievement or special event.

A variety of benches, trees, and plantings are available to donors who wish to have their name or the name of a loved one associated with the gift.

Gifts of all sizes made in honor or in memory of a loved one directly support all aspects of the Gardens’ day-to-day operations in conservation, living collections, community access, and visitor experience and education.
